NEW SERIES: Shiva & Shakti, Continued
On-going. Current series ending with a special programme on Saturday 18 February; new series starting 2 March 2023
Experiencing the effects of japa (mantra repetition), kirtan and bhajan (mantras sung with music), and other methods of elevating the mind, harmonising emotions, and finding a positive outlet for the creative force. Unlike other evening classes on our platform, Mantra and Bhakti Sessions are a continuous journey, with various themes rotating every seven weeks (then one week break in between).
To start with, we will delve into the art and science of japa, continuous mantra repetition, one of the easiest and most enjoyable methods of meditation and mental purification. Each session will also contain at least one kirtan, where mantras will be sung with music, and occasionally we will practise short swara sadhana, a technique where the voice is tuned and opened (and also a wonderful vibrating meditation, if continued for a while).
We will also go though other forms of mantra practice, readings inspirational texts and lifestyle adjustments which, when combined into a regular personal practice, will completely transform the way we see and understand things, people and events around us, connecting us with the expansive, loving, nurturing aspects of our nature and minimising the limiting, self-oriented and (self) destructive tendencies.
In the first instalment of the Shiva/Shakti theme, more emphasis was given to the Shiva mantras; in our next run, it will be Shakti who gets more attention. Invoking the grace of the Cosmic Mother, especially in her fierce, protective form, has hardly been more pertinent than in our current times full of confusion, discord, ego-driven actions and other tamasic (dark) tendencies on the personal as well as social levels.
Being the great destroyer of demons of all kinds that She is, let us invoke her blessings for the purification of self and the world at large!
